Listing Social Security Numbers On Job Applications

Listing Social Security Numbers On Job Applications Name, Surname, E-mail, Previous experience, Social Security Number… Wait. Why do I have to list my social security number on this job application? This is the question that pops up in everybodys mind at least once, as more and more companies are requiring a social security number when applying for a job.We were always told never to reveal our social security number to anyone and here are our possible future employers asking us for it.It is quite normal to be confused in this situation as it is quite uncertain whether the employers are allowed to ask for your social security number and whether you are actually obligated to provide it.We have checked the Law and most common practices to make sure you get all needed information to feel safe if you choose to provide your social security number. We’ll go through all scenarios now and figure out what is the best solution in this kind of situation. If you are looking for an answer to questions such as: Is it safe to list my Social Security Number? Why do they need my social security number? Can my data be used in an illegal way? This is the article just for you, as we answer these and other most common questions regarding social security number policy on job applications.WHY IS THE COMPANY ASKING FOR MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?There are many various reasons a company asks for social security number.Well go through them now and highlight and explain the most common ones.1.  Confirming Your IdentityThe most common reason companies ask for Social Security Number information is to confirm the identity of the applicant.National databases such as the E-Verify system provide companies with a quick and accurate confirmation of the identity, and the only information they need for it is your social security number. If you were wondering why is this so crucial to your employers and could there be another way to do this, think about the consequences that may occur if the company has hired somebody with the stolen identity. If you we rent aware, these consequences are quite serious, which is why companies try to avoid taking the risk.Even though the company itself suffered from fraud, it can be required to pay the fraud tax or summoned up to the court, on liability lawsuits bases.Of course, it depends on the company whether they will ask for your social security number before your job application, only after they notice some irregularities with the documents or never. You will find out once you start applying for the job in that company.Even though you now understand why they need your social security number, there is still a high chance that you do not feel safe to provide it.If that is the case, you should know that you are completely free to decline that request and keep the information about your social security number solely to yourself. However, you should bear in mind that this might be a red flag for the possible employer and that they might start doubting whether this is your true identity or not.If this happens, you can try offering any other documents you find comfortable sharing. For example, your identification card, a birth certificate, passport number or anything else that proves your identity. Some companies might agree on this, and some maybe not.The reason for this is usually the fact the checking the social security number is the most effective way to prove somebodys identity. The company has to respect your decision, but you should be prepared to respect their if it’s not wanting to hire you.2. Proving Your ResidenceIn the area of globalization, we are facing many immigrants in our country who are looking for a better life.Unfortunately, not all of them have the residence or work permit here, which leads to them seeking for a way to get a job.Often these ways are not legal. For example, falsification of the documents and purchasing stolen identities has become a routine. If we take into consideration all of the consequences that come with hiring someone with the stolen ident ity, then add up all the consequences that come with hiring an illegal immigrant, the risk that the company would have to take is quite high and not worthy for most of the companies.Even though the company wasnt aware of the fact that the employee had a stolen identity nor that he is an illegal immigrant, they still have huge responsibilities in this situation.Whats even more, they could be seriously held responsible for not checking the employees background while applying for the job.To be more precise, for not asking about the social security number. The social security number (or the number that solves everything as many refer to it) not only confirms your identity but also proves your residence.Which ensures the employer that you are a resident of our country and have a legal right to work, which gets you one step closer to the job you want.3. Working in a Protected IndustryIf you are looking for a job in special industries, such as those that require working with vulnerable popu lations or having access to the confidential information   for example, healthcare, education, banking or similar, you should be aware that asking for your social security number is a necessary routine check. It’s a fact that not everybody can work in these industries and therefore a complete background check is a way of ensuring that the applicant is safe for the work environment. It shouldn’t surprise you if they ask you for a social security number and even do some other checks.Of course, there is an exception to every rule, meaning that even if you find yourself applying for a job in some of these industries, some company may not ask for your social security number. If this happens, it means that the company has other ways of checking your background, so you can expect questions regarding your name, address and other useful information. If you are still wondering why would anyone ask for social security number if it is possible to check a person without it, you should bear in m ind the social security number is still the most reliable way of checking anybody, and until the new one appears, it will be the most used one.In the end, it is up to the company to choose whether they will ask for it or not.Another benefit of asking for it for the companies lays in the fact that is the easiest way for them to check your credit or criminal record if you have it.A good thing you could always do is talk with your employer and try to understand why do they need this information. It’s usually that the companies hire other companies for screening the candidates. If you find the partner company trustworthy, there is a high chance that your social security number or any other information you provide won’t be misused.4.  Confirming Your ReliabilityDepending on the job you are applying to, some positions might require employees who are reliable in many aspects. For example, somebody who does not change the job often has their own insurance or is capable of handling the mone y in the proper way.For all these aspects there is one simple way to check the applicants reliability and that is the social security number.Certain companies do this check for all the positions in the company, no matter how low or high they are in the hierarchy. The main goal is to reduce risk and the possible consequences that could reflect on the entire company.Bear in mind that some companies who do business with the public will probably take into consideration their security too, and in that manner persuade with the request for the social security number. It is important to mention again that even in this kind of situation, you are still allowed to decline the request and keep your social security number private.Just remember once again, that it might lead to the company not considering your application.IS IT LEGAL FOR A COMPANY TO ASK FOR THE SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?Unfortunately, the answer to this question is yes, in most of the states. The most disturbing fact is that all of th e candidates are being asked for the social security number, whether they will proceed with the selection process or not. Many states have prohibited private companies from asking the social security number and collecting any other information that is not relevant for the position. This has been shown as the bade case practice, as many employees are quite unsatisfied with this procedure, as well as many candidates give up on applying due to the fact that they do not feel comfortable to provide the information regarding the social security number.Legalities advise not providing this information on the job application.Even though you do not provide the information while applying, bear in mind that many job applications require you to sign the agreement on being checked completely. This allows the company to check your background, references, criminal record and all of the information that you have already provided. It might eventually lead to them asking for your social security number if they realize there is a need for it.If you decide not to provide it while applying, it might be necessary to go to the companys office and fill it in there, if it happens that the company wants to hire you.If that happens, you should really consider whether its worth losing this opportunity to keeping the information for yourself, when its most likely that you will be asked for the same information in any other place.Another advice is to not fill the social security number online. It is not recommended to even send it through the post.As mentioned above, the best option is to provide it in person, ensuring that the company gets it and nobody else.If your information got misused, the law is on your side and you will have the right to fail a complaint against the company. The companies are also aware of this, which actually led to a couple of them not asking for this information, considering the risk of the information getting hacked or leaked higher than hiring someone with the stole n identity. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS IF I DONT WANT TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION?The fact that the employer is asking for your social security number does not mean that you have to provide it.You are entitled to your privacy and feeling of safety.Only the government and national security jobs require you to provide the social security number as we have explained previously and that is the only exception. The same way that the employers are afraid of hiring someone with the stolen identity, the candidates are afraid of their identity being stolen by providing the social security number. So it’s quite understanding why you still hesitate to reveal it.You may have faces the job applications that literally make the field fit the social security number required, leaving you thinking that there isn’t another option.Gladly, there are still some other options you can choose if you do not want to fill in your social security number. Here are the most useful ones.1.  Explain why you don’t want t o provide it.It’s simple as that. Whatever bothers you, you can write in the field an explain it to the employer. Write about your doubts and why you chose to keep it private. If you would feel more comfortable sharing the information once you get the job, that is something you should also mention. This is a good option, but just to repeat it once again, it might not be enough to the potential employer and they have the right to decline your application.2.  Leave it blank. This happens often, that the job applications let you leave this field empty. This means that you can easily skip this section or use it as it was mentioned in the item above â€" explaining why you dont feel safe to provide your social security number. Also, you can add a guarantee that you will provide it later in the selection process.3.  Provide it partially. You can choose what you list. If you want to increase your chances of being considered for the job, you can list some of the numbers and for example, leave th e last four digits as 0000.This is a good option if you want to show that you trust the employer, but will completely reveal the information about the social security number if you are accepted.HOW TO AVOID SCAMMERS?It is crucial that you stay safe. Therefore, you should be aware of the potential troubles and know how to avoid scammers.Scammers can be found mostly online asking for social security number on fake job applications or during the selection process for a job or a company that does not even exist. Here are some tips on how to stay safe.If the employer asks for the money and explains it as the typical part of the application, it’s most definitely the scam.If you suddenly hear from a company or an employer you haven’t ever worked with or you find out that they’ve been checking your information, it is probably a scam. Try to contact the company and see who’s behind it.Never e-mail your social security number to anyone â€" it is easy to hack into somebody’s mail, not to mention that it even easier to start a fake company and collect social security numbers. If possible, try avoiding sharing any information besides your e-mail address or telephone number. It is the best possible way to stay safe. If an employer is asking for other information, drop by their office and provide them with everything they need to know to consider your application.WHAT TO DO IF MY INFORMATION HAS BEEN MISUSED?What to do when your worst fear becomes reality? Don’t worry, we have a way to help you fight with this nightmare. If your employer has asked about the social security number and it ended with you becoming the victim of the identity theft, the first thing you need to do is to report this incident to the social security administration. Don’t waste any time fail a complaint immediately. The next thing you could do is contact Equifax, TransUnion, or Experian and report the stolen identity; they’ll make sure to let everyone know that your identity has been stolen and prevent anyone from opening accounts under your nameLastly, make sure you report this theft to them as they are the only ones who can protect your taxes and your government accounts from intrusion. It should be everyone’s goal to protect their information. However, it’s not that easy, especially when you take into consideration the other side and the reason the companies ask for it. Their main goal is to stay safe, the same as yours. That’s the reason it is so difficult to determine whether the company really needs our information or we are being the victims of the fraud. If you have difficulties and can not deal with them on your own, make sure you contact the screening company.Same as the employers partner up with the screening companies to run a background check on potential candidates, you can go to any screening company and ask for their advice. They have plenty of experience in this field and theyll be able to tell you whether the company really need some piece of inform ation or is misleading you. HOW TO SUE A FAKE COMPANY THAT MISUSED MY INFORMATION?If the worst scenario happens, here is a quick guide on what you need to do in order to sue that fake company that used your social security number.1.  Get a lawyer.Decide whether you need a lawyer or not. It might be useful to consult with some of the lawyers so they can tell you whether you actually need one.In cases connected to the stolen identity, it is recommended to get one, as it is quite a serious situation.2.  Identify the defendant. If the fake company has tricked you to fill in your information, it might take you some time to discover who actually is behind this company. It may require you hiring a detective, just so you can find the person you can actually sue.3.  Establish jurisdiction over the defendant.Get familiar with the law, as it is different from state to state.Realize what is the best option for you to go to the court and understand what can actually be done and how will the proces s look like.4.  Gather evidence.Find all the e-mails that youve sent and received from this company and any other communication you had.Find the fake job application if it still exists online, as well as the proof that your identity has been stolen.5.  Sue in small claims court. As mention previously, the law is different in different states and it is quite difficult to understand everything. Therefore, suing them in a small claims court is the best option, as it is the easiest for people who are not previously educated in law.FINAL WORDWhether you’re looking for a new job or your boss has suddenly requested you to fill in your social security number, it is quite understanding to be scared. With many bad examples around us, it is natural to feel a tendency to keep our most important information private. Therefore, you should always check all of the options you have and make sure that the company that requires information from you is reliable. Many companies are having the same fear as you and therefore seek to check each and every applicant, in order to feel safe. That is something you should have in mind, as it will probably have an impact on whether the company chooses you or not.Remember, they are checking you, but you also have the same right to check them!

Strange Meeting by Wilfred Owen Essay Example

Strange Meeting by Wilfred Owen Paper At the time he wrote this poem, Wilfred Owen had lost hope for the war generation: civilians could not understand, soldiers could not explain. All a war poet could do was warn children, they might find consolation later that a true voice had managed to speak. His poems might prove that there is something indestructible in this human spirit. That would only be consolation if future generations acted on his warning and loved their fellow men. Owen felt he failed as a poet. From your reading of Strange Meeting, what do you think? In the poem Strange Meeting, Wilfred Owen believes he has failed as a poet. I think that he would be trying to warn future generations and also tell the truth about the war to civilians. His aim was to make civilians realise what war was really like and for the war to end. Wilfred Owen has a negative attitude towards war in general, and this negativity shows constantly throughout his poem Strange Meeting. One of the main ideas of the poem is the pity of war and this shows Owens belief that war creates more problems that it solves. I mean the truth untold, the pity of war, the pity war distilled. The truth is the pity of war and Wilfred Owen is trying to tell this message in his poem, because as a poet he believes that it is his duty to tell everyone how terrible war is. Owen is hoping that war will make people show pity and think about what war actually achieves for mankind. Wilfred Owen shows us that war does not move the human race on, but takes it backwards. He believes that war is not suitable in todays society. Much blood had clogged their chariot-wheels I this quotation, Owen is explaining that war (the blood) is halting humanity (chariot-wheels) from progressing. He believes war is what people did a long time ago when they had a disagreement, and it has no place in modern society. When humanity is evolving and moving the human race. On one step, war is taking us back two steps. He would rather leader talk about their disagreements instead of fighting with each other at any opportunity they get. Wilfred Owen shows us that through knowledge we can learn to avoid war, and if everyone knows about the reality of war, it can be a thing of the past. Courage was mine and I had mystery, wisdom was mine and I had mastery; to miss the march of this retreating world. In the war, soldiers have the courage, and they follow their orders to their extent. But Wilfred Owen has the wisdom to step back from the war and he still has his life intact, but those who have had the courage to be fully involved with war will have lost their lives. Wilfred Owen has almost lost all hope of warning civilians and he thinks that he is fighting a losing battle. He has lost all hope of helping others because he does not think that they can understand. Here is no cause to mourn The deaths and the suffering that Wilfred Owen saw in the war have left him without hope, because it goes against everything he believes in. From the first three lines of the poem we learn a lot about Wilfred Owen. We learn that he seems to be in a dream or nightmare because he uses the phrase it seemed. He uses the metaphor: Down some profound dull tunnel The dull tunnel is portraying Owens state of mind, a trench he is travelling down, and is also a reference to him entering hell. Wilfred Owen is travelling into his hell: war. The tunnel is great in intensity (profound) and is travelling into something which titanic wars had groined. Owens idea of hell is something war had shaped: a trench cut out into the earth during war by a bomb. The soldiers will be forced to be satisfied with the destruction they have caused or they will walk away sad from the war because of the lives that they have killed. Now men will go content with what we spoiled. Or, discontent, boil bloody, and be spilled. The soldiers may be happy with what happened, or be dissatisfied, as Wilfred Owen was, at the fact that there will be more wars, suffering and bloodshed in the future. Owen wants to do something about it now, and stop war altogether because they are killing innocent people and destroying the earth that they live on. Wilfred Owen was in his own vision of hell. His vision of hell was one of pain and suffering and hopelessness. He was living in hell. By his dead smile I knew I stood in Hell. With a thousand pains that visions face was grained. Here, Wilfred Owen is warning people of the pity of war and that war is the same as hell. Hell was a place where pain was multiplied a thousand times on one face. Wilfred Owen is willing to die, but not at war, because he does not believe that a life deserves to be lost at war. He thinks that war is not worth going through, because the bad points outweigh the good points. I have poured my spirit without stint but not through the cess of war. Enemies are made at war, even though there is no logical reason that they should be enemies. I am the enemy you killed, my friend Wilfred Owen is contradictive because he calls him an enemy and friend. He loves his enemy as he loves himself. These people are enemies because they are on different sides, but they have no reason for fighting. If they were not at war with each other, they would be friends. Wilfred Owens goal as a poet was to tell people about the war and warn them. Some of the real truths about the war were almost too terrible for civilians to understand. I would go up and wash them from sweet wells, even the truths that lie too deep for taint. There are truths that are hidden and are so deeply covered that they escape decay or change. Wilfred Owen wants to uncover these truths that people are trying to hide, and tell everybody so that he can help bring an end to war and suffering. He is trying to help civilians understand the evil of war, because he believes that those who embrace war will go to hell. In hell there is suffering and you can have no feelings or emotions. I went hunting after the wildest beauty in the world, which lies not calm in eyes, or braided hair, but mocks the steady running of the hour, and if it grieves, grieves richlier than here. This is not conventional beauty, this is a beauty that transcends time and is not beauty that human beings can possess. In conclusion, I do not think that Wilfred Owen has failed as a poet because I think that he has been successful in warning people about the pity of war. He has warned civilians about the evil that is in war. Wilfred Owen, in his poem Strange Meeting has tried to teach people, but he may not have been successful in his own battle, to stop war and suffering altogether. In his own eyes, Wilfred Owen may have not been a successful poet because there are still wars going on nowadays and therefore has failed. However, I believe that he told the real truths about war like a war poet was meant to, and has tried to teach people to love each other instead of fight.

Geography, Climate and Species of Earths Arctic Region

Geography, Climate and Species of Earth's Arctic Region The Arctic is the Earth region that lies between 66.5Â °N and the North Pole. In addition to being defined as 66.5Â °N of the equator, the specific border of the Arctic region is defined as the area in which average July temperatures follow the 50Â °F (10Â °C) isotherm (map). Geographically, the Arctic spans the Arctic Ocean and covers land areas in parts of Canada, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and the United States (Alaska). Geography and Climate of the Arctic The majority of the Arctic is composed of the Arctic Ocean which was formed when the Eurasian Plate moved toward the Pacific Plate thousands of years ago. Although this ocean makes up the majority of the Arctic region, it is the worlds smallest ocean. It reaches depths of 3,200 feet (969 m) and is connected to the Atlantic and the Pacific via several straits and seasonal waterways such as the Northwest Passage (between the U.S. and Canada) and the Northern Sea Route (between Norway and Russia). Since the majority of the Arctic is the Arctic Ocean along with straits and bays, much of the Arctic region is composed of a drifting ice pack which can be up to nine feet (three meters) thick during winter. In the summer, this ice pack is replaced mainly by open water that is often dotted with icebergs that formed when ice broke from land glaciers and/or chunks of ice that have broken away from the ice pack. The Arctic regions climate is very cold and harsh for most of the year due to the Earths axial tilt. Because of this, the region never receives direct sunlight, but instead gets rays indirectly and thus gets less solar radiation. In the winter, the Arctic region has 24 hours of darkness because the high latitudes such as the Arctic are turned away from the sun at this time of year. By contrast in the summer, the region receives 24 hours of sunlight because the Earth is tilted toward the sun. However because the suns rays are not direct, summers are also mild to cool in most parts of the Arctic. Because the Arctic is covered with snow and ice for much of the year, it also has high albedo or reflectivity and thus reflects solar radiation back into space. Temperatures are also milder in the Arctic than in Antarctica because the presence of the Arctic Ocean helps moderate them. Some of the lowest recorded temperatures in the Arctic were recorded in Siberia around -58Â °F (-50Â °C). The average Arctic temperature in the summer is 50Â °F (10Â °C) although in some places, temperatures can reach 86Â °F (30Â °C) for short periods. Plants and Animals of the Arctic Since the Arctic has such a harsh climate and permafrost is prevalent in the Arctic region, it mainly consists of treeless tundra with plant species such as lichen and mosses. In the spring and summer, low-growing plants are also common. Low growing plants, lichen and moss are most common because they have shallow roots which are not blocked by the frozen ground and since they do not grow into the air, they are less prone to damage by high winds. The animal species present in the Arctic varies based on the season. In the summer, there are many different whale, seal and fish species in the Arctic Ocean and the waterways surrounding it and on land there are species such as wolves, bears, caribou, reindeer and many different types of birds. In the winter however, many of these species migrate south to warmer climates. Humans in the Arctic Humans have lived in the Arctic for thousands of years. These were mainly groups of indigenous peoples such as the Inuit in Canada, the Saami in Scandinavia and the Nanets and Yakuts in Russia. In terms of modern inhabitation, many of these groups are still present as are territorial claims by the aforementioned nations with lands in the Arctic region. In addition, the nations with territories bordering the Arctic Ocean also have maritime exclusive economic zone rights. Because the Arctic is not conducive to agriculture due to its harsh climate and permafrost, the historic indigenous inhabitants survived by hunting and gathering their food. In many locations, this is still the case for the surviving groups today. For example, Canadas Inuit survive by hunting animals such as seals on the coast during the winter and caribou inland during the summer. Despite its sparse population and harsh climate, the Arctic region is important to the world today because it has significant amounts of natural resources. Thus, this is why many nations are concerned with having territorial claims in the region and in the Arctic Ocean. Some the major natural resources in the Arctic include petroleum, minerals and fishing. Tourism is also beginning to grow in the region and scientific exploration is a growing field both on land in the Arctic and in the Arctic Ocean. Climate Change and the Arctic In recent years, it has become known that the Arctic region is extremely susceptible to climate change and global warming. Many scientific climate models also predict larger amounts of climate warming in the Arctic than on the rest of the Earth, which has raised concerns about shrinking ice packs and melting glaciers in places like Alaska and Greenland. It is believed that the Arctic is susceptible mainly because of feedback loops- high albedo reflects solar radiation, but as sea ice and glaciers melt, the darker ocean water begins to absorb, instead of reflect, solar radiation, which further increases temperatures. Most climate models show near to complete loss of sea ice in the Arctic in September (the warmest time of year) by 2040. Problems related to global warming and climate change in the Arctic include loss of habitat critical habitat for many species, rising sea levels for the world if sea ice and glaciers melt and a release of methane stored in permafrost, which could exacerbate climate change. What Is Purple Prose (and 4 Expert Tips on Fixing It In Your Writing)

What Is Purple Prose (and 4 Expert Tips on Fixing It In Your Writing) What Is Purple Prose? And How to Avoid It Most of us have committed the sin of purple prose at one time or another - and many find it hard to shake, even as experienced writers. It can sometimes be hard to tell good description from bad, leaving lots of writers worried about accidentally sounding â€Å"too purple.†But worry no more! This guide will take you through all the ins and outs of that pesky, pernicious prose, from its precise definition to how to prevent it in your writing. How to make your prose less purple and more powerful What is purple prose?Purple prose is overly embellished language that serves little meaningful purpose in a piece. It’s characterized by strings of multisyllabic words, run-on sentences, and blocks of unyielding text. Universally discouraged by all manner of writing experts, purple prose slows the pace, muddles the content, and can lose the reader entirely. If you’ve never read purple prose before, it sounds something like this:The mahogany-haired adolescent girl glanced fleetingly at her rugged paramour, a crystalline sparkle in her eyes as she gazed happily upon his countenance. It was filled with an expression as enigmatic as shadows in the night. She pondered thoughtfully whether it would behoove her to request that she continue to follow him on his noble mission†¦Ã‚  Very difficult to get through, no?Purple prose doesn't always persist throughout the entirety of a piece - it can also pop up every so often in â€Å"purple patches.† But even a few "purple passages" can disrupt your reader. This is because:1. The writing draws attention to itself and away from the narrative  or thesis.2. It’s too convoluted to read smoothly and can disrupt the pacing of your story. So why, despite its many drawbacks, do some writers continue to use such unnecessarily ornate language? The answer, ironically, is simple: to try and appear more â€Å"literary.†Think of purple prose as a cardboard cutout of a celebrity. From a distance it looks convincing, even impressive - but as you draw closer, you realize there’s nothing behind it. Purple prose is like that: beautiful from afar, with very little substance to it.What's the most purple thing you've ever written? Just for fun, leave it in the comments below!

In the Mood for Love Movie Review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

In the Mood for Love - Movie Review Example ses are having an affair with each other, both were very dejected, started to fill the gap in their lives by bringing more emotions to their friendship. The theme of the story was melancholic depicting how two disheartened and deceived people found peace with each other’s company although they thought not to be as their spouses. It has been said that Wong has created moody atmosphere using a combination of mise-en-scene, cinematography and his unique direction in the movie. The most inspiring aspect of In the Mood for Love is its brilliant cinematography. Most of the scenes in the movie were shot with the normal lens in order to avoid visible distortions so that the viewers can feel being the part of the movie themselves. The closed shots and close-ups were taken from the telephoto lens as it gives a feel of personal encounter to the viewer. In an interview, Wong declared that he wanted to shoot a movie like Vertigo by Hitchcock in which most scenes were taken outside the frame leaving the rest on the viewer’s imagination. Many of the scenes were shot from behind the windows, partitions and grills in order to create suspense as asserted by the director. Another important aspect of cinematography is Wong’s direction was the use of tracking shots to slide flawlessly between spaces. (Roger 105). Wong by emphasizing on the cinematography kept most of the scenes longer so that the audience would not be interrupted by the cuts and scene transitions. This also helps the audience in getting indulge within the plot and sink with the story line. Christopher Doyle and Pin Bing Lee, the cinematographers of the movie have been acclaimed great appreciation on the brilliant work they have done in the movie. Critics claim that the missing elements in the movie like music or dialogue in some scenes were amazingly covered by intelligent framing and filming of the characters which give us enough detail about the scene and the story. They used techniques like lowering the

Japan-Korea Trade Relations Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Japan-Korea Trade Relations - Term Paper Example The contraction of the trade relations between Korea and Japan initiated between the years 1929 and 1933 which was the period of the Great Depression. However this contraction in the trade was temporary. The trade expanded again after the year 1933. The expansion was fast and the exports to and imports from Japan were 80% of the total exports and imports. The trade relations between Japan and Korea were severed after the World War II. As compared to the exports before the World War II, Korea’s exports were negligible. The exports in the year 1953 were merely 1% of the total Grand National Product (GNP); however the imports were 10%. This difference in exports and imports affected the Korean economy in a negative way and it created a very sophisticated system of exchange rates (Hong, 1979). Due to the Korean War, trade with Japan stimulated; however the extent of imports was far larger than that of exports. The scenario changed again the trade between Korea and Japan came down to a very insignificant rate of GNP by the end of 1950s. In the 1960s, trade between Korea and Japan began to grow again and by the mid of the decade the trade relations between both these countries were established. Both the imports from and exports to Japan rose by a significant degree and they accounted for a high proportion of the total imports and exports of Korea. From the perspective of Japan, exports to Korea were 2.8% of the total exports in the year 1962 (Haggard 1990). In the early 1960s, the President of Korea had initiated designing economic reforms that encouraged trade relations with Japan. Such reforms included unification of the exchange rates and the controls on exchange were... Any impact on these economies would affect the rest of the economies in the region; therefore it is highly important that both the economies remain stable. In the recent past, it has been observed that without any cooperation, these economies would not be able to handle the economic crisis in the Asia. The Asian economic crisis caused both these countries to promote a closer economic relationship. This time, it was determined that mere private sector cooperation would not suffice, but the economies will have to cooperate at governmental level. Thus, it can be inferred that the trade relations between Japan and Korea are just as important for the region as they are important for these two economies. According to Yamazawa, a framework is being designed that would help Japan and Korea to implement upon their plan for a closer economic relationship. The framework would also include a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which would facilitate the trade among these two countries even more. The trade relations between Korea and Japan have not been quite smooth since their very inception. There have been certain factors that keep the trade between these countries from developing. According to historical facts, Japan and Korea have made a number of attempts to improve the trade. However, the imbalance in the trade between these countries kept increasing over the years till the trade deficit reached a very high point. The trades relations have been unfavorable since then, however both the countries have been trying to get improve the trade relations once again and discussions between the officials of both the countries are underway.

Humorous Wedding Speech Given by a Friend from Work :: Wedding Toasts Roasts Speeches

Humorous Wedding Speech Given by a Friend from Work Ladies and gentlemen, thank you. And, on behalf of the bridesmaids, I’d like to thank Anthony for his kind words. I certainly agree that they did a great job today. And as for the rest of his speech, I always knew he’d be hard to follow – but I didn’t expect an unintelligible, mumbled noise. Oh well, it only goes to show that just when you think you know someone well, they go and surprise you. But in fact, I haven’t known Anthony for all that long. Anthony and I actually met about six years ago when we were working for the same company. In fact, it’s rather amazing that we have become such good friends, given the relatively few occasions back then that he actually bothered to turn up to work at all. But good friends or not, I do have a theory as to why he’s chosen me to be his best man and not one of his older friends. If you ask me, it’s because he didn’t want a best man who’d be able to tell you about all the embarrassing mishaps and misdemeanors of his youth. Like the time, aged 15, that he was invited round to have tea with his first girlfriend’s parents and managed to walk dog poo across their new living room carpet. I always thought that pale cream was an impractical colour for carpet. And, after that, afternoon, so did Sarah Bailey’s parents. And unfortunately for Anthony, Sarah herself found him to be a rather impractical boyfriend. And so that was the end of that. And I’m sure his choice of best man was similarly influenced by a desire to keep under wraps the post-A-level pub crawl that led to him spending a night in the cells after vomiting off a bridge onto the bonnet of a passing police car. Anthony, I hope you now see that it was never going to be that easy – which brings me onto your stag night. Now, the men in the room will be aware of what goes on at a stag do and Anthony's was certainly no different. We did all the usual things – museums, a cream tea, a classical concert and a trip to the theatre †¦ were not amongst them. But considering there were 12 lads hell-bent on giving him a night he’d never forget - but probably rather would forget if they’d got their way – I think I did a pretty good job of looking after him.

Victims Movement

Victimology in its most simple form is the study of the victim or victims of a particular offender (Roberson. & Wallace, 2011). I feel that the Victims’ Movement has not yet reached its full potential because just like every form of law, legislature or even government there is always ways to improve and to become stronger. Much like when we started to form our government it had so many flaws and it still today has the ability to improve. The problem is that as society changes and crime changes the laws and the system have to change with it in order for things to improve. When it comes to crimes it isn’t just the victim that is affected, everyone involved is affected including the offender and the society. Starting in the 1960’s victims of crime began to volunteer with many different programs to assist other victims, speaking on their behalf and trying to fight for rights and fighting for a voice. Because of these actions we now have programs like Law Enforcement Assistance Administration (LEAA) which is an agency that provides funds for law enforcement to establish victim-witness programs (Roberson, Wallace, 2011). The downfall in creating programs like this is the funding, having the money to pay for them. That was exactly the problem in in the 70’s and 80’s, not enough funding to keep them going. This is a problem for a lot of law enforcement and criminal programs. Not to be discouraged the movement just started to move into specialized groups such as National Coalition Against Sexual Assault, and POMC; Parents of Murdered Children. Another one that we hear about a great deal still today is MADD which is Mothers Against Drunk Drivers founded in 1980 by Candy Lightner whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver (Roberson,Wallace,2011). Having these programs can be so helpful to so many people that it is important to have the money to fund them; this can be a problem for those who need it. So what is there for us to do to ensure that they remain available? Are there ways to continue to be effective? I feel that there are ways to ensure that the Victims Movement reaches its absolute full potential and to ensure that nobody goes unnoticed that may need such programs. I feel that it is important to have contingency plans and goals to achieve success. First continue to get the word out, be the voice for the people who may not have their own anymore. With the MADD organization there goal is to â€Å"To aid the victims of crimes performed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to aid the families of such victims and to increase public awareness of the problem of drinking and drugged driving (MADD. org). † With this organization they have saved nearly 300,000 lives by doing the work they do; by having MADD in all 50 states, 1,200 victims’ advocates in 48 states and 20 volunteer hotlines that help people 24/7 ( MADD. rg). These programs don’t always get money from the government, they often have to raise money, and they are often non-profit organizations, but without them victims may have no other resources. Plan for the future. Having goals to help people, to help the victims and even the families of crimes like drunk driving or sexual assault needs follow through. They need someone to sa y â€Å"OK let’s get together and make a plan, let’s get as many drunk drivers off the road as we can†. It takes a leader to get groups going, to make a difference in so many people’s lives, and it shouldn’t take a tragedy to get people to do something about it. Get as much support as you can. Being a victim doesn’t just happen, these organizations don’t just happen and the Victims Movement can’t thrive on its own. These things need support; they need support from communities, the need support from society and they need support from the government. There are times when we need laws, laws to prevent people from being able to commit the same crime unpunished and able to hurt other people. Law enforcement agencies should be involved as much as possible too within their own communities, providing assistance programs and advocates to support victims or all involved that have their lives forever changed. These are things that can help make the changes we need, the changes we need to continue righting the wrongs and to forever make a difference in the lives of so many people.

Essay on Roles of Managers and Leaders - 1328 Words

Roles of Managers and Leaders Introduction An organization without a leader with a vision may be destined to fail. In the same respect, an organization without a qualified manager to carry out that vision could be in total chaos. It may be possible for the role of leader and manager to be played by the same person; but in all likelihood, they are portrayed by two totally different individuals; especially if within a large organization such as the United States Postal Service (Postal Service). The Postal Service has been operating for over two centuries and to give a prospective of how long that is; Benjamin Franklin was†¦show more content†¦Similarly, managers who dealt with the day-to-day activities of mail delivery also needed the insight to implement the plans geared toward that vision. In addition, managers must get their subordinates to buy into that vision as well. Functions of Management and Strategies Over the years, the Postal Service has had to change the way it processes its mail and packages to keep up with its competition; namely, the Internet and other mail delivery services, such as UPS and FedEx. In an article cited on the DM News website, John Potter, USPS Postmaster General, was quoted in a recent speech stating that the USPS was â€Å"in competi ¬tion with the Internet.† In order to better compete, more value needs to be added to the mail — but it is â€Å"imperative† to keep prices down. (2008, p. 3) In essence, the Postal Service is in constant search of finding faster and more efficient ways of sorting and delivering the mail as well as keeping their prices low. In the ‘90s, the organization went through similar issues in its processing facilities for keeping up with the competition. The Internet was becoming the chosen way for people to communicate and other mail service companies were offering faster ways to deliver packages to customer s at low prices. In addition to dealing with the competition, there were ongoing issues with workforce grievances. Bbc Media Coverage Analysis Essay - 1420 Words

This essay will argue that whilst the BBC media coverage of my chosen article has good attributes, there is a lack of extensiveness and some of the information that is presented to the reader is misleading. Throughout this essay I will analyse the original research study and compare the findings to previous research. Secondly, an analysis of the media’s article will be conducted, before comparing it the research study. Lastly, I will conclude that the BBC’s representation of the study is imprecise and biased as they excluded limitations and misrepresented the method and findings, thus impacting the readers ability to acquire precise and impartial information. Alloway, McCallum, Alloway and Hoicka (2015) recruited participants between the ages of six and seven to assess whether verbal working memory (WM) has a significant influence on verbal deceptive abilities in children. They used an independent groups design to compare the results of verbal and visuospatial WM memory between the experimental condition which had 114 participants and the control condition had 21 participants. The children played a multiple choice trivia game and were categorised as being good liars (GL) or bad liars (BL) based on how they answered entrapment questions, which were used to detect which children looked at the answer when the experimenter wasn’t present. File Management System Of Easy Credit Company †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the File Management System Of Easy Credit Company. Answer: Introduction The given case study on Easy credit which is the largest credit finance company of Australia states that there has been a decision made with respect to changes in the file management system and installation of a data warehouse. There will be nightly uploads of batch files to the warehouse and risk analyst will be able to access the data from the warehouse. Why change? This change is needed because earlier were required to store the data on D drive and this led to lack of protection of data. The file serverperformsverybadly when the sensitive data is placed on a common drive there are chances that it might get misplaced, misused, deleted etc. therefore there is a big threat to the business information system. It is important to have a change for controllingoverthe use of data for saying who accesses the system and for managing who uses what kind of business information. Systems boundaries In this big data world, information system involves human and machine for higher efficiency and for are applied in multifarious social settings in the global market place. However, in this case the limitation has been of the utilization and participative system designs of the databases. The biggest limitation in this case is that anybody in the business has accessibility to the file server and can store the work files. There isno single control to access the files and they can store whatever they want to. Many people can access the file server at one time there is no control over the usage restrictions are there. Description of existing system The existing system is at high risk because it can be manipulated and has no restrictions. The file server performance needs improvement and many times the reports of teams go missing (Ault, 2013). There are huge numbers of users who are simultaneously accessing the same set of data or trying to upload the files, which lowers the speed of the file server. The existing system also allows the users and workers to upload their personal files into the system, thus hampering the performance of the system. In any case, before putting resources into a data warehouse stage, the initial step is to inspect whether the business truly needs one and what benefits it can get. To achieve this, Easy Credit should consider the two data warehouse organization alternatives - venture wide or department- wise. At last, the firm should have the capacity to coordinate the different applications for data warehousing to the most proper data warehouse platforms. Description of key objectives, tasks, outputs The key objective is to replace the file server with the data warehouse. The main tasks will include upgrading of the file management system and installation of a data warehouse with the nightly uploads of batch files. This way the risk analysts will be capable of accessing the data from the warehouse, along with storage of the results. This warehouse will act as a storage space for the analysts too and the space that was used earlier for saving the outcomes of assessment i.e. the D drive will be saved for other uses. Diagnosis of efficiency needs There are ethical impacts when Easy Credits use learning algorithms to big data sets and produce prototypes and models. To know how the utilization of a data warehousing tool can lead to ethical issues and protection breaches, the Easy Credits has understand the fundamentals of what data warehousing can do. Data warehousing is useful and efficient as it fetches more levels of reliance with superior levels of information at its disposal (Naeem, Dobbie and Weber, 2011). Diagnosis of job satisfaction needs The most excellent decisions are made when all the important data available is considered. The most excellent possible source for that information is a well-made data warehouse (Agosta, 2012). The conception of data warehousing is deceivingly uncomplicated. Data is extorted sometimes from the applications that maintain business procedures and replicated onto extraordinary committed computers. Future Analysis Creating data warehouses had been difficult in the past (Corey, 2011). A lot of early users saw it to be expensive, time consuming, and resource demanding. With the passing of years, it has got a status for being uncertain (Golfarelli and Rizzi, 2009). This is particularly right for those who have attempted to make the data warehouses themselves devoid of the assistance of genuine specialists. Specifying weighting of efficiency job satisfaction needs objectives The most excellent data warehouses comprise of a well-off range of helpful metadata fields (Kumar Madria, 2014). A Night on the Lake essays

A Night on the Lake essays The story Greasy Lake written by T. Coraghessan Boyle had a special impact on me personally. I could relate to the characters and their rebel without a cause attitude. I was 19, thought I was bad, and there was nothing in the world that could stop me. Unfortunately I had a sobering incident at a lake similar to the guys in Greasy Lake. Like the characters, the setting of the lake where I got in trouble is going to have a sobering effect on me for the rest of my life. I was going to boarding school in Jacksonville, Florida at the time. My friends and I were young and we thought we were bad. Similar to the characters we would cruise the town at night looking for something to occupy our time, but we usually ended up at a local lake to just hang out. It was a place of refuge for us to relax and catch a high that would take us out of reality for sometime. Our reasoning for going to the lake was the same as the characters as the narrator explains here: We went up to the lake because everyone went there, because we wanted to snuff he rich scent of possibility on the breeze, watch a girl take off her clothes and plunge into the festering murk, drink beer, smoke pot, howl at the stars, savor the incongruous full-throated roar of rock and roll against the primeval susurrus of frogs and crickets. (129) The lake always provided a fun social atmosphere for my friends and I at the time, until the day it would change our lives forever. The night started out like any other night. I was with three of my friends that shared the same bad attitude as myself. We were cruising the strip looking for trouble without ever thinking of the consequences. We came to the conclusion that the best thing to do was go up to our lake, since it was a pretty dead night and we were sure to find some people up there. By the time we got to the lake we had a drank some alcohol and smoked a little pot, but to us this was ...

Key problems at Edit 4U and recommendations Essays

Key problems at Edit 4U and recommendations Essays Key problems at Edit 4U and recommendations Essay Key problems at Edit 4U and recommendations Essay Drury ( 2008 ) has defined direction accounting as â€Å"†¦ the proviso of information to people within the administration to assist them do better determinations and better the efficiency and effectivity of bing operations.† Making the most effectual and efficient determinations is one of the most critical things to make because this leads to a successful growing and profitableness of the company. Assorted places like the Board of Directors make these important determinations every twenty-four hours in order to function the shareholders’ involvements and to do certain that the concern will go on to run in the hereafter. The determinations are made utilizing competent direction accomplishments, different managerial experiences and whether the direction chose to be a hazard taker or a hazard averse. Edit 4U ( E4U ) is a household owned concern who provides redaction and layout service for magazines. The concern was set up with the purpose to be profitable and to vie with other concerns in the same field whilst the economic system of Ireland is dining. As a get downing business- jobs and troubles could non be avoided which is the ground why this study has been commissioned. The study will supply information and concern advice to decide jobs that Mr. and Mrs. O’Sullivan is presently sing. The cardinal issues of the concern will be analysed and examined to be able to give the right solutions and recommendations to Mr. Sean O’Sullivan. Different direction accounting techniques would be endorsed in order to better the public presentation of the concern. KEY ISSUES The cardinal issues that have been found whilst the analyzing the concern is as follows: I.Costing Method Pricing occupations or merchandise costing is one of the cardinal issues that Sean and Mary are presently confronting. Sean does non cognize how to be a service per column occupation which has led to inaccurate fiscal statements and false figure of gross ( Banker A ; Hughes, 1994 ) . A direction accounting research by Brignall, et Al ( 1991 ) have mentioned that merchandise costing are used for ‘ stock list rating, merchandise pricing, mix determinations and for direction planning and control’ . It is indispensable that a concern cost their service right because it helps the direction make better determinations towards the profitableness of the concern. The cost-plus pricing could be an option that Edit 4U could utilize because this determines the merchandising monetary value and costs of the service they offer. This is calculated based on Sean’s chosen net income border for the company. Furthermore, Edit 4U could utilize a merchandise costing system which helps to be products/ services based on the demand for the occupation. Marginal costing, soaking up costing and activity based costing are some of the bing methods that Sean could utilize to accurately monetary value the column services that they offer to their clients. The Activity Based Costing ( Garg A ; Rafiq, 2002 ) method `†¦aid strategic determination devising, it act as a lens into the concern procedure leting resources to be expeditiously allocated and to enable cost decrease and in conclusion, it is an allotment mechanism that transfer pricing internal and external to the organisation’ . This indicates that the footing of allotment which a theoretical account is shown in Appendix 1should be considered to be implemented throughout the company because this will divide up the costs that are allocated consequently to its cost Centres. The method ensures that costs are being driven by the right cost Centres and they are exactly measured. Enforcing a direction accounting technique will ensue to a better service pricing based on the customization of each client ( Caplan, 2014 ) . However, in order to make these more information is needed from the concern. For illustration, Sean should account for all the relevant costs because this will back up him to take the most efficient determination with respects to the hereafter of the concern. Options should besides be considered because this will move as insurance in instance the first determination fails. In add-on, more information like how much work is allocated to a customized redaction service ; the type of merchandise mix that they are traveling to offer that could give high soaking up rate and how much is the demand for their service. These are some of information that would be required from Sean and Mary to to the full set a monetary value on services that they offer. Equally good as supplying extra information it is recommended that Sean and Mary use the client profit ableness analysis ( Epstein, 2000 ) which is shown in Appendix 2. II.Planning and Control The following cardinal issue to be raised is the deficiency of separation between the family and the business’ disbursals since Sean utilizations portion of their place as an office. The Activity Based Costing will assist Sean and Mary to allocate the cost more accurately with respects to the disbursals used in the concern. The deficiency of planning and control in the concern could take to hapless determinations being made, hapless hard currency flow, and they could be taking the business’ objectives to a incorrect way ( Lucey, 2009 ) . The Cost Volume Profit ( Drury, 2013 ) analysis â€Å"examines the relationship between alterations in activity and alterations in entire gross revenues gross, costs and net profit.† The analysis is a direction accounting technique that determines how many products/ services can a concern green goods in order to breakeven. This means that the analysis could let the direction to happen out how much services they can offer in order for the concern to gain net income. The analysis is besides used to pull the border of safety that will demo the scope of units before the concern will happen some loss. Using this sort of direction accounting technique could forestall Sean from doing the incorrect determination for the company. However, the analysis will non work if there is non adequate information available which makes it impossible for the concern to build the cost volume net income analysis right ( ACCA, 2014 ) . Some of the information that will be needed to bring forth the analysis is the expected gross revenues of the concern, the variable cost, the fixed costs and the part per unit of the merchandise. Therefore, it is recommended that the concern should go on on utilizing the accounting system that they already have because this will guarantee that the grosss and disbursals are accurately accounted for. Furthermore, this will do certain that the books remain balance and their VAT returns will be addressed right. III.Business Venture The last issue that will be analysed and discussed is the prospective concern venture that Sean will come in with Fergus. There are Numberss of concerns that would necessitate to be resolved in order to do the right determination for Edit 4U’s concern venture ( Datar, et al. , 2012 ) . The first concern is the loan that Fergus will borrow from Sean to pay for the printing and distribution costs. I would propose to Sean to make a full background and recognition cheque on Fergus before he agrees to make a concern venture with him. The ground for this is that Sean demands to do certain that Fergus is a believable individual and has a clean repute amongst Bankss and edifice societies. If Fergus has a bad repute as a man of affairs, so this could post great menaces and hazards to the concern venture and could stain Sean’s concern repute. However, if Sean wants to prosecute the concern venture so he would necessitate to come in into a contract with Fergus that contains all the conditions that Sean has with respects to any jobs in the hereafter sing Fergus’ credibleness. Sean will necessitate to retrieve that even though they have a contract, he could non alter the public’s sentiments towards him if there was a dirt about the concern venture. The 2nd concern would be the failure to budget the hard currency flows of the concern. Budgeting is a direction accounting technique which ensures that the hard currency out flow and inflow will be accounted ( Russell, et Al, 2001 ) C. Using this technique Sean and Fergus would be able to be after and do determinations about the hereafter of the concern and they can accurately cognize the costs and predicted grosss. If the concern does non utilize any accounting technique so it will be hard for the direction to find the public presentation of the concern and they will non be able to run into their aims. Last, Sean should be cognizant on how many yearss their creditors are giving them because if the company fails to pay these creditors in clip they will be given non to swear the company and discontinue making concern with Edit 4U. The worst instance scenario is the company traveling to travel on bankruptcy ( Agarwala A ; Taffler, 2008 ) . Using personal recognition cards and overdraft installation as a capital is non the most efficient manner to finance a concern because this could take to paying higher involvement rates that will incur each month. In order to avoid losing the creditor’s yearss a direction accounting technique called ‘accounting ratio’ should be practiced. Patton has mentioned on his Accounting reappraisal in 1982 that ratio analysis could be really utile in countries like ‘analysis of concern minutess in markets that may non be efficient ; contractual bounds based on accounting rations and public presentation anticipation and hazard rating in an efficient market’ . Some people might believe that accounting ratios are non utile but in fact these ratios could steer the direction of the company to whether the concern is executing good and it could besides uncover how many yearss their creditors would necessitate to be paid and when they are traveling to have hard currency influxs from their debitors. However, if more information like the fiscal studies is available, it is possible for the company to to the full analyze and see the public presentation of the company. The accounting ratio could assist the company pull off its hard currency flows efficaciously. Therefore, I would propose for Sean and Fergus to utilize the ratio analysis technique whether they go in front or non with the concern venture. CONCLUSIONS A ; RECOMMENDATIONS After analyzing and measuring the cardinal issues of Edit 4U, I conclude that Sean who started the concern along with his married woman Mary should utilize and implement a figure of direction accounting techniques in order for their concern to be enhanced, to turn and to place the costs expeditiously. As a direction adviser, I would urge for Mr. and Mrs. O’Sullivan to utilize the undermentioned: Activity Based Costing to be the service that Edit 4U offers and to apportion the costs efficaciously to each cost drivers. The Profitability Analysis should be used to calculate the profitableness of a undertaking and the concern. Cost Volume Profit ( CVP ) Analysis ( CSUS, 2014 ) should be used to be able to cognize when the units of end product and the sum of grosss breakeven. Budgeting and accounting ratios are used to analyze the concern venture between Fergus and Sean. These direction accounting techniques could give the two parties a better image of the public presentation of the concern. In add-on, these techniques could give them the most of import information needed to do determinations and send on their program. Therefore, after accounting the most of import key issues, it has been identified that more information is needed from Sean with respects to the past records and past public presentation of the company in order to utilize the direction accounting techniques and to acquire the most accurate consequences. The more accurate the consequences are from utilizing these techniques, the more accurate the determinations are made for the company.
